Symptom
During installation, you get any of the following errors: Upgrade
cannot be installed, could not verify digital signature, requiers IE version 3.0.2
or higher. You may also see error codes 1642, 1621 or 1935. Use this for any errors
during installation that refer to dotnetfx.exe or .netfx sp1.exe.
Solution
Download and install Microsoft.NET Framework version 1.1 before installing MARC
Wizard. Microsoft.NET can be downloaded at Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1
MARC Wizard or MARC Magician installation

MARC Wizard or MARC Magician installation taking a long time
Solution
.NET installation is a normal part of the MARC Wizard or MARC Magician installation.
Due to their large size, the programs can take some time to download and install,
as they are big programs.
Saving your MARC Magician
Data
Symptom
You are getting a new computer and you want to save your MARC Magician records and
settings.
Solution
MARC Magician keeps the records and settings in a data folder. Before disconnecting
your computer, determine the location of your data folder by clicking Help, and
then About MARC Magician .
If your data folder is local
(i.e., C:\Program Files\MARC Magician \data): Copy the data folder to a safe place
- that could mean burning it to a CD or copying the folder to a network location
(the folder contents will probably not fit on a floppy disk). Install MARC Magician
on the new computer. Before starting MARC Magician , copy the data folder from its
safe place to C:\Program Files\MARC Magician . When you start MARC Magician , you
should see your records and settings.
If your data folder is on a
network: Write down the location of the data folder. Install MARC Magician on the
new computer.
- If you have a MARC Magician
icon, click once to select it, and then press and hold the Shift key while pressing
the Enter key. This opens a box that lets you browse to the data folder. Select
the appropriate folder and click OK. You should see your records and settings.

If you have a MARC Wizard
icon, start MARC Wizard and then select MARC Magician . Walk yourself through the
Startup Wizard. Once you get to the MARC Magician Master List, click File, and then
click Set Database Location. This opens a box that lets you browse to the data folder.
Click OK once you’ve selected it. You should see your records and settings.
What to enter

Symptom
You get asked for your user name and organization during the install and aren’t
sure what to enter.
Solution
Enter your name and your school name.
Error reading setup initialization
file
Symptom
When installing the downloaded version of MARC Magician , you get the message, “error
reading setup initialization file.”
Cause
The download did not finish correctly.
Solution
Try downloading the file again. You may need to talk to your tech people about this
if it fails repeatedly.

dotnetfx.exe
Symptom
During the MARC Wizard install, you get a message, “An error occurred while downloading
the file http://www.installengine.com/cert03/dotnetfx/dotnetfx.exe. What would you
like to do?”
Possible Causes
- Your Internet connection may be
down. You must have an Internet connection in order to install .NET.
- You do not have sufficient rights
to download or install .NET. You will need to log into your computer as an administrator
or have one of your IT people do so.
- Microsoft .NET is unable to install
from the MARC Wizard setup.exe file.
Solution
Download and install Microsoft.NET Framework version 1.1 before installing MARC
Wizard. Microsoft.NET can be downloaded at Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1
