Our Mission & Philosophy

We think libraries are a cultural treasure and a vital part of our country's intellectual and economic growth. We believe that a library needs well-educated, motivated people whose primary goal is to help their patrons and a quality collection to support that goal.

We have one mission - giving library users the greatest possible access to library materials through a clean, content-rich database. It just so happens that in doing that, we help you reduce your workload, shrink operations costs and spend more time focused on your patrons - person-to-person. We also provide tools, at no cost, to institutions providing coursework and training to future librarians, as another vital step towards achieving our mission.

Our History

Founded in the late 1980's as Information Transform, Mitinet lead the way in automating MARC records for libraries as they converted from print-based card catalogs to computerized databases, beginning with the world's first integrated library system - the RLN system at Stanford University. Mitinet continued to lead the way by participating in notable metadata projects with premier institutions such as the Queens Borough Public Library, Oxford University and the Beijing Library, among others.

Mitinet developed the first ever PC-based MARC cataloging tools (MARC Magician) to help school libraries create electronic records and manage data within the then-new automated library environment. Automated MARC record generation software and then data cleanup software soon followed, as we responded to changing customer needs.

Today we continue to lead the market in personalized and high-tech library data solutions for our customers with the introduction of Full Circle Support, and BestMARC™, our cloud-based MARC record database management platform.

Our offices are located in Verona, WI. and Bethany, MO.

  • “Lots of librarians can tell you Mitinet does what they say they do - make Lexile numbers go into the MARC records seamlessly.
Since I don't have access to my own MARC records, I can't speak to that. But I can tell you that Mitinet is flexible and understanding of client's needs even when it doesn't align to what they normally do. Really, the best decision I've made as a new teacher librarian was talking to Justin at AASL!”

  • “When I came in this morning, I was just thrilled with my new catalog – for the first time in 4 years, this school has a catalog thanks to updates subject headings and no capitals! I appreciated your patience and good nature in waiting for me to get back to you while classes of students needed my attention.”

  • Your directions were wonderful and easy to follow. Thank you for your help and patience even though I had to call back twice!

    You do great work!

  • "I could not have picked a better resource for our students to learn cataloging with the MARC record.

I previewed software last year to use for my course at Mansfield, it became crystal clear that your product was (and still is) eons in front of the competition for beginning catalogers and practicing librarians, as well.

Also I cannot say enough about the cooperation and service provided by your company."

  • "The North Coast Council Information Technology Center provides software support to several hundred K-12 Libraries in northeast Ohio.

To those who want to update their MARC records with reading level data, we always recommend subscribing to Mitinet Library Services...the service is both timely and cost-effective, the process is proven, and the results are impressive.

We seldom recommend vendors to our library customers, but Mitinet is an exception."

  • "My school district consists of 27 schools & has been using Mitinet’s Full Circle Support for two years. Media coordinators find their services extremely valuable for saving time & money. Twice each year, Mitinet updates Accelerated Reader information, Lexile levels, & subject headings for our district catalog in a timely manner. Last year, several schools asked Mitinet to standardize call numbers in all of their copy records. This was completed for the 2 schools in less than 2 days! I am extremely happy with Mitinet’s customer service & library services rendered for my school district."

  • "Mitinet is used by many of our Mandarin schools to support the NYSED Passage Selection Guidelines for Accessing CCSS ELA by placing not only Lexile but Fountas and Pinnell and Accelerated Reader into MARC records to offer multiple indicators of text complexity... and they are updated as often as that school chooses to run them"

    Mandarin Library Automation/Mitinet Library Services

  • "All of your services are so great & the Full Circle Support is the icing on the cake. We put 7,000 new materials into Destiny for our 13 schools during the last year and we could not have done this many if we didn't have the Wizard and the Magician with their magic wands. It would take over twice as long to do our marc editing directly in Destiny.

I've been using Mitinet products for almost 20 years now."

    Sharon Rood
    District Media Services Secretary
    Kearney Public Schools, Kearney, NE

  • "Mitinet’s Full Circle Support Only service (available only to INFOhio subscribers) provides a very cost-effective statewide solution for INFOhio’s school libraries to enhance MARC records in their local catalogs.

The addition of Lexile information is especially critical, as schools are trying to meet the instructional shifts of new learning standards which call for students to increase the complexity of text they read. Used with an existing reading program or on its own, Mitinet's text difficulty ratings help students find books at their reading level while giving teachers an easy way to find books to stretch students' skills. A definite win-win situation!

    Theresa Fredericka
    Executive Director

  • We think that Mitinet™ has one of the best RDA conversion services we have seen to date.

  • The records are amazing – matter of fact we really can’t say "cleaned" we need to say "all new MARC records" because that is really what they are. Dixon USD just started using Alexandria the week of January 11, 2016. I know that the library tech who handles the middle & high school is thrilled with being able to “find” titles because there are now subject headings. What a concept!!

Thank you all so much for making a purse out of a pig!
