Subject Heading Updates
One of the most important parts of a MARC record, accurate and up-to-date subject headings make individual items in your collection more discoverable. People commonly search by subject when they don't have a specific title or author in mind, and if subject headings are out of date or inconsistent, your patrons may have trouble finding what they want.
Subject Heading Updates fixes these problems by converting your old subject headings to the latest terminology, using Sears, Library of Congress and Library of Congress Children's as well as our optional Kid-Friendly™ subject headings, unique to Mitinet™.
With Subject Heading Updates Custom Services you can:
- Increase an item's chances for circulation - Many MARC records have limited or even outdated search terminology fields. More fields give your patrons more chances to find what they're looking for on your shelves.
- Make your subject headings "Kid-Friendly" - When you choose Mitinet's "Kid-Friendly" subject headings, we add content appropriate fields in today's more casual language - for example, "cars" in addition to "automobiles" . Patrons of all ages benefit from this feature!
- Save time - no more manually updating records, and less time looking for materials the kids and teachers could be finding for themselves.
This service is recommended for libraries whose systems don't support external Subject Authority files or who find them too costly. As with many Mitinet™ products and services, you choose only those subject heading types you want for your library.
Increase the circulation numbers for your collection, before you even buy another book, with Subject Heading Updates.
