Manage Authority MARC records
BestMARC Global has full Authority MARC record support for adding, editing, and managing both Bibliographic and Authority records.
Search
Search the Library of Congress Name, Series, and Subject Authority databases for Authority records right from within BestMARC. Filter by type, collection, and scheme.
Authority Editing
BestMARC’s editor fully supports Authority records and displays appropriate field, subfield, and indicator names. The Quick Editor has its own set of settings.
Record Management
Use the My Records grid with Custom Columns, Global Editing, Lists, and all the rest of BestMARC’s features.
Update bibliographic Name and Series fields
The Authority Explorer is a tool to help you quickly and easily find authority data and add it to your bibliographic records. Use it for adding names or series from the Library of Congress Name Authority database. This is available for all BestMARC subscription levels.
Open Authority Explorer by clicking the button next to an authority-controlled field, such as 100 for author.
This field can be blank to find and add a new name.
The Authority Explorer pane opens with search options that can be changed if needed.
Click a term to see the details for this name authority record.
Click the Add to Record button to add the term to your bibliographic record automatically.
The full Authority MARC record can also be saved for download.
The record is updated with the correct subfields from the authority MARC, including the $0 URI so you can track the authority source and allow for automatically updating in the future.
Update bibliographic Subject fields
Use BestMARC to easily add new authoritative subjects and update to the latest terminology.
Use the Subject Explorer to easily find new Subject Headings through search or based on your already existing subjects.
Authoritative subjects from Library of Congress, LCAC, Sears, and GSAFD are included and cross linked for easy navigation between broader, narrower, and related terms.
Click one or more terms to add to your record. They are automatically added with the appropriate tag (650, 655), indicators, and subfields.
Use the Subject Heading Updates enhancement to standardize and ensure you are using the latest authoritative subjects from Library of Congress and Sears. BestMARC tracks obsolete terms and automatically updates your subjects to use the latest terminology.
Use Subject Enrichment to add customized lists of subjects based on existing subjects found.
BestMARC can remove redundant subjects, letting you choose which subject type to favor. There are also options to remove or replace “Juvenile” when desired, as well as an option to order subjects in numerical tag order if that is your preference.
